ABOUT NAHB'S CGP COURSE


Learn how green homes provide buyers with lower energy costs and higher value. This 2-day course for building professionals discusses strategies for incorporating green-building principles into homes without driving up the cost of construction. You will learn how green homes provide buyers lower maintenance, better indoor air quality and better long-term value. Techniques are also discussed for competitively differentiating your home products with increased indoor environmental quality as well as energy and resource efficiency.  

 

As a graduate of this course, you will be able to:

  • Locate and design green building development sites.
  • Control moisture and durability for each component of the building envelope effectively.
  • Employ resource-efficient materials to achieve comfortable, safe and sustainable buildings.
  • Strategize ways to meet, exceed and verify green building energy efficiency requirements.
  • Implement indoor and outdoor water conservation practices.
  • Achieve indoor air quality.
  • Consider green building objectives in a remodeling project.
  • Explain a homeowner's and builder's role in effective operation and maintenance of a green home.
  • Apply successful business management, marketing and sales strategies to sell green.

*** Additionally, completion of NAHB's Business Management for Building Professionals (8 hour course) is required to receive your CGP (see section below for details and info)



HOW DO I EARN MY CGP?


To earn the CGP designation you are required to:

  • Complete NAHB's Green Building for Building Professionals (2 day course) AND
  • Complete NAHB's Business Management for Building Professionals (1 day course)
  • Have a minimum of 2 years of building industry experience
  • **Submit a signed copy of the Code of Ethics Pledge 
  • **Remit $145.00 (members)/$245.00 (non-members) graduation fee & application (includes plaque, press release template, lapel pin, CGP logo)

** Only upon certification of completion for both required courses.

HOW DO I MAINTAIN MY CGP?


To maintain your CGP designation you are required to:
  1. Complete twelve (12) hours of continuing education every three (3) years.  A minimum of six (6) hours is required to come from the NAHB University of Housing educational activities.  A minimum of eight (8) hours is required to come from green building industry related educational activities.
  2. Pay an annual renewal fee of $50.00 (members) $75.00 (non-members) to NAHB
